The Public Health Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recognizes the importance of safe drinking water and proper disposal for the health and well-being of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. As a result, many steps in the right direction have been taken in accordance with the current government's vision and agenda. The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has adopted the Drinking Water Policy 2015 and intends to execute it in a fair and equitable manner. The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa sets aside sufficient funding from available resources for investment in the sector, with the goal of increasing water coverage in a cost-effective, efficient, and long-term way. The Public Health Engineering Department plays a significant role in the development of a healthy society. The government aims to provide the department with everything it needs to complete the tasks entrusted to it. Despite facing numerous budgetary constraints, the province government is dedicated to completing and completing water supply and sanitation facilities as part of its development plans. I am glad to congratulate the Public Health Engineering Department on their planned public health engineering projects, which may expand the province's water supply and sanitation coverage. It is intended that it would also contribute to public awareness of the importance of clean drinking water and healthy hygiene. I am certain that the department will play a key role in delivering better service and meeting international commitments under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been mandated with provision of drinking water & sanitation services to the rural population of the Province. It was originally established as an attached department in 1974 and was upgraded to administrative department in 1992.
