The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is cognizant of importance of safe drinking water and appropriate disposal of waste for the health and wellbeing of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. As such various steps have been taken in the right direction in accordance with the present government vision and manifesto. The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa approved drinking water policy 2015 and aims to implement the policy in letter and spirit in an equitable way. The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa allocates adequate funds out of the available resources for investment in the sector which aims to increase water coverage in an effective, efficient and sustainable manner without any discrimination. PHE Department is playing a pivotal role in the development of building a healthy society. The Government intends to fully equip the department with the required wherewithal for performing the tasks entrusted to it. Though provincial government is confronting many challenges on financial fronts yet the government is committed to accomplish and complete water supply and sanitation schemes under its developmental programme. I am pleased to congratulate Public Health Engineering Department on their upcoming projects in public health engineering sector which may increase water supply and sanitation coverage in the province. Hopefully it will also be beneficial in bringing awareness amongst people regarding the importance of clean drinking water, and will also create awareness on health hygiene. I am confident that the department will play an active role in provision of improved service delivery and achieving the international commitments under Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been mandated with provision of drinking water & sanitation services to the rural population of the Province. It was originally established as an attached department in 1974 and was upgraded to administrative department in 1992.
